Featherbones

This is Matt Langley's full-length debut album ‘Featherbones' - featuring the 2010 APRA award winning Country Song of the Year ‘7:13’.

With Featherbones, Matt has created an album that reflects his diversity as a writer and performer and collection of songs that invites the listener to reflect on love, life, loss and hope rendered with the sparing beauty of a true song-smith.

“This is the music we should be showcasing…crafted compositions, tunes that stick in the mind. Clever amalgams of rhythm, melody and harmony…beautifully played.”

Simon Sweetman - Dominion Post

“A fine local singer-songwriter still flying below the radar, Langley is an assured songwriter with a number of strong, interpretive voices at his disposal...
This is as fine a singer-songwriter debut album as you could expect.”

Lost Companions

This is the debut solo EP from Dunedin musician Matt Langley. Recorded in April 2007 at Trident Studios,
Wellington with engineering by Brett Stanton (Phoenix Foundation and Age Pryor).

"Lost Companions is about being a storyteller, about cutting it back to that very simple unpretentious 'this is a song' I wrote, and taking people on a journey".

– Matt Langley

“Langley writes simple songs, love songs filled with prose from the heart, but Lost Companions is in no way prissy or delicate… [reverberating] with the same sort of presence that the great Jeff Buckley was able to instil in his melody and lyric...intrinsic soulfulness, delivers in every respect.”

Brand new track, live first take from the 'November Afternoon Session' at Albany Street Studio, Dunedin. Recorded and engineered by Stephen Stedman. A quiet arvo in the big room with cups of tea and my songbook.

BIJOUX: Studio Sketches 01 EP [HT003]

A collection of 'Studio Sketches' from when I was sharing the The Blue Room with Dylan in Wellington. These are sketches in the true sense of the word; live with no overdubs, often first takes of songs written only a few days eariler if not that afternoon. We had fun compiling this batch, enjoy!

Biography

Matt Langley is an APRA Award winning and critically acclaimed New Zealand singer-songwriter.

He recently released his debut solo LP Featherbones to widespread acclaim. The NZ Herald glowed that “this is as fine a singer-songwriter debut album as you could expect”, and the Sunday Star Times marvelled that “it is one of life’s simple pleasures to hear a voice like this”.

Featherbones follows Matt’s critically acclaimed 2007 EP Lost Companions, and features the track 7.13, which took out the 2010 APRA Country Song of the Year award.

All the while, Matt has been touring the nooks and crannies of New Zealand, headlining the 14-show Pages from Dunedin tour in May 2009, and the 20-show Featherbones tour in December 2010 alongside Australian songwriter Caitlin Harnett.

Matt will spend the winter touring with Darren Watson and The Eastern, before welcoming summer with the much-anticipated ‘Hitchhikers Tour’ this December. He will also be building towards the release of his second solo album, due for release in January 2012.
